How do I decide which Modem or Data Rates are needed?
There are several options when deciding what modem supports your needs. Basically, you look at what kind of data you are sending and receiving now and you also want to think about whether you want to send more data later. Once you know the basic data needs, then you can match that to the different data categories and then to the modem in question.
If you are sending small amounts of IoT or SCADA data and will not have a need for more, then you can use an NB-IoT model which supports ultra-low complexity devices and data rates with very narrow bandwidth. These models use the 200 kHz range frequency and support around 250 Kbs per second data rates. If this is your model and you do not need more, then select the TW810 NB-IoT Modem:
If you sending larger amounts of SCADA data, you can use a model that supports Cat-M1 level data rates, sometimes called just Cat 1. This unit typically operates at 1.4 MHz bandwidth with higher data complexity than NB-IoT. Cat-M1 can to achieve data rates up to 1 Mbps and has lower latency and more accurate device positioning capabilities. This is great for applications that move frequently. If the application requires lots of data with large packets such as video, then you should use s modem that supports LTE Cat 4 data rates. Cat 4 can support data rates up to 150 Mps with much larger packets and very efficiently.
